1. Truths About Online Business
According to CNBC and data from the World Advertising and Research Center (WARC), “…it is estimated that advertising spending worldwide will go up to 618.7 billion U.S. dollars in 2020.”
On top of that, according to Forbes, “Email marketing still promises to deliver the highest ROI of all marketing channels—$42 back for every dollar you spend.” This makes email marketing still one of the most powerful tools in making money online.
Internet marketing is at least a 618.7 billion U.S. dollar industry. Is it any wonder why there is NO DOUBT that you CAN in fact make money in online marketing through email marketing and list building? Think of that: with an ROI of $42 for every $1 you spend, how much would your life change if you mastered this skill? The only thing really stopping you is knowing exactly HOW to do it and the detailed step by step processes holding you by the hand showing you specific actions to take.
The money is in the list
There is an old saying that “the money is in the list” and this is very true.
When you build an email list of people that like your niche then you can generate revenue by offering them products and services that are related to your niche.
The medical devices company in Southern California that I current work for uses these same strategies and tactics you will learn here. They started in 2016 and they are currently increasing their revenue year after year selling their products from their warehouse and the CEO forecasts they will make make even more in their projected growth. I am part of their marketing team and work closely with the CEO because I am part of the team that makes the company money. I work behind the scenes and see all of the ads they use, videos, scripts, landing pages, and writing that goes on to build that kind of money that they are making.
Another client I have is a marketing agency and the CEO of that company was so impressed with my results and sample ads that he hired me on the spot. He recently sold his company and is now starting a new one so he had me join his team. The same methods you see here are the same methods the CEO uses to scale his companies to the moon.
Do you have to be a big company to use these strategies and tactics effectively? Absolutely not. I use the same strategies and tactics in my own personal career online making money and it works wonderfully. Many others are crushing it online using these ninja tactics.
With the level of technology we have today, it is possible for a one-person operation to increase your profits in this way. All you need is to know how to do it.
These work with other businesses like the medical devices company and the marketing agency company. I worked with them and saw how they use the strategies and tactics that I also use.
Although I do not make guarantees of results, you will learn the secrets, methods, strategies, and tactics that successful people have used in their online marketing.
2. Why You Should Make List Building the Focus of Your Business
Isn’t It Tough to Build a List?
Many people think that list building is really tough, which is the main reason that they don’t do it. There is nothing tough about it but it will take you time to build a large list of subscribers. Tools are available to help you build your list and some are free and some will cost you money. Adding an “opt in box” to your website is something that everyone can do – you do not require graphic design skills for this.
There are many large list owners out there that have absolutely no technical skills. This means that you can build a large list as well. To build your list you will require an autoresponder for the automatic sending of emails and the code to create your opt in box.
You must entice people to provide their email address to you and this is best achieved with a free lead magnet. A lead magnet can be in the form of a report or even a video that shares something of value.
These days’ people are concerned about providing their email addresses so you need to provide something of value in exchange for this. The value of subscribers on your list will far outweigh the cost of creating the lead magnet.
A List is an Asset
There is a lot of value in a niche specific list of subscribers. This value will increase in proportion to the size of your email list. If you just sell products and services and do not capture email addresses of your visitors and customers then you will lose this added value.
An online business that has an associated list of subscribers is a lot more valuable than one that does not have a list. Each person on your list has a value and if someone is interested in purchasing your business they will be aware of this.
Money on Demand
When you respect your list members and provide them with valuable content with the emails that you send you will have the ability to make money on demand. You will have earned the respect of your email subscribers and when you present an offer to them they will be likely to check it out and some will purchase.
Many large list owners have made fortunes with email marketing and you can as well. Email is more direct than advertising and a lot more effective. Your email subscribers will know and trust you so they will be more inclined to buy what you offer.
Think Long Term with List Building
There are a number of challenges associated with list building. You will need to invest time, effort (and money if you choose) to create a big list. The long term benefits are worth it though.
3. The Right Way to Sell to Your List
In days gone by you could send out sales emails continuously to your subscribers and you would make money. People were not on many email lists and there was an acceptance that you were informing them about products and services that would help them.
These days are well and truly gone. Nowadays people are members of many different lists and when something new is launched they will be notified by all of these list owners as well as you. All of the list owners are trying to make sales and the subscriber knows this.
Many people in the Internet Marketing world have interpreted this as the death of email marketing. This is ridiculous and it isn’t true. It just means that you need to take a different approach.
For some of those Internet Marketing gurus that have extremely large lists sending out lots of sales emails may still work. If you are relatively new to email marketing then it is unlikely to work for you.
In the old days people subscribed to lists didn’t have a lot of choice and accepted being constantly sold to. They will not tolerate this from you. If you keep sending sales emails to your subscribers they will always have their guard up and you will increase the chances of them unsubscribing.
Soft Sell By Linking
You need a different approach to get your emails opened now. Most people skim their emails and will only open a few of them so you need to get creative to ensure that they open yours. Blatant sales emails are not creative.
Don’t just suddenly switch your approach. If you have been sending great advice and information to your subscribers then don’t just suddenly send blatant sales emails. This will destroy trust that you have built up with your subscribers and make you look desperate. If you do this then most of your subscribers will stop opening your emails.
A lot of list owners resort to sales emails because they don’t know what else to do. It is not rocket science to use a different approach but it will take a little bit more time and effort. As an example if there is a new email marketing product being launched that you know will benefit your subscribers then send them an email about how you solved an email marketing problem.
Tell your subscribers about your problem in detail and how you overcame it. Tell them that it took a long time and a lot of hard work to solve it. Then introduce this new product and explain how easy it all was and the time and effort that you saved.
Remove the Hype
Avoid hype at all costs in your emails. With soft selling you are recommending something and not selling it. Don’t use hyped up phrases such as “you must get this now before it’s too late”. Just introduce them to the product and ask them to check out a video or read further about it with a link in your email.
Sometimes new products have bonuses for early buyers or there may be a time limit on the launch. Don’t over hype this but point it out in your emails. You will get good at this soft selling approach the more that you practice. Remember that it is all about trust and providing value.
4. Squeeze Pages with High Conversions
It is essential that you get your squeeze page right as it is the first step in your sales funnel process. It does not matter if your lead magnet is top notch as well as your email sequence if you cannot capture the email address of your squeeze page visitor.
You must make the effort to measure the conversions that your squeeze page delivers. There is nothing difficult about this. It is just the number of people that opt in divided by the number of visitors to your squeeze page. So 30 people opting in out of 100 visitors would give you a 30% opt in rate.
Your Headline Is Critical
With written sales pages it is often said that the longer the copy the better conversions you will achieve. The opposite is true of squeeze pages and this has been proven in several tests. Your headline explains the benefits of obtaining your great lead magnet and this needs to be achieved in a few punch words to be really effective.
There have been several squeeze page tests conducted and a really interesting one was whether a squeeze page converted better with or without bullet points. The tests revealed that just a headline and no bullet points lead to greater conversions. Nobody really understands why this is the case – less is more is the best conclusion.
Your visitor is busy and you need to do everything to respect their time. Get straight to the point and then let them decide. There is no sale to be made so long copy is really not necessary. Keep it minimal.
Use your headline to create hope and curiosity. Be sure to tell your visitor that the information in your lead magnet is not very well known. Use the final line of the headline to tell your visitor about the biggest benefit. Play around with your headlines to see what converts the best.
Promote Your Brand with a Pre-heading
It is very likely that your visitor will have never heard of your brand before. They may not look at your domain name so get your brand in front of them with a good pre heading. Use the space right at the top of your squeeze page box for this.
There is nothing wrong with using your own name so you could write “The Sally Jones Newsletter Proudly Presents…” When you are using a specific name then replace with this. It is important that you present your brand name as when your subscriber receives your emails they will be from your brand name.
This is easy to set up in your autoresponder. Just add your brand name to the “From” field. Sometimes this is called the “Sender” field. The first email after subscribing should arrive very quickly into your subscriber’s inbox so they should be able to relate this to your squeeze page and free lead magnet. They will be more inclined to open your email this way.
Don’t ask for your visitor’s first name
The old convention was to ask for a first name and email address. This means that your visitor will have to complete two fields instead of one. Don’t make them work hard to become a subscriber of your list. Just ask for their email address.
5. What Products Should You Promote?
When you choose a niche for email marketing it is vital that the niche has a lot of products and services that you can offer as an affiliate. If you have your own products and services then of course you will promote these too.
Many experts will advise you to write about your passions. This is fine if these niches can be easily monetized with a lot of good products. If this is not possible then do not choose this niche. You want to make money from your email marketing efforts don’t you?
Seasonal niches need to be avoided as well Instead choose an evergreen niche that is in demand the whole year around. “Thanksgiving” and “Christmas” are great but when they are over the money dries up. What will you do after that?
What are good evergreen niches? Well health and fitness is huge as is dating and relationships and making money online. In fact the make money online niche is highly recommended as there are tons of products available to promote. If you cannot think of any niche to go into right now, it is highly recommended to use the make money online niche as a default. Then one you start making money, you can branch out to your passion niches that you want to go into because you are passionate about that niche.
But for now, we will use this niche, the make money online niche, as an example for the remainder of this article.
Relevant Offers Only
You may think that this is obvious but some email marketers will still recommend products that are not related to their niche and then wonder why they do not make any sales. Let’s say you decide to write an email about email marketing. The product offer could be an autoresponder service, a product for squeeze pages and so on.
There are some really good affiliate network websites for the make money online niche. You will find many different products and services to promote on them. Every time a sale is made you will be paid a commission either via PayPal or by check.
Clickbank.com is a good place to look for make money online products to promote. Commissions are paid twice monthly by Clickbank and they are always on time. There is no requirement to gain approval to promote a product so you can start immediately.
When you are checking out products look at the gravity rating. The higher the gravity the more affiliates are promoting and making sales. Then go to the sales page and see if it looks good and would convert. Ask yourself if you would make a purchase. When you have chosen your product just get the affiliate link.
There is a drawback with Clickbank and the make money niche. Some of your subscribers may already have a Clickbank account and they could use their own link to purchase and you would not get a commission.
There are always lots of make money online products to promote on Warrior Plus. You can sort the products by the number of sales, the value per visitor and even the commission payouts. With most of the products you will need to request approval to promote. Tell them that you will use your list and email marketing to promote and you should be accepted.
You will find good make money online products on JVZoo as well and it works in a similar way to Warrior Plus. They publish their best sellers and you will find all of the important metrics that you need. Again you will need to request approval to promote on JVZoo.
6. The Lowdown On Subject Lines
It should be obvious to you that the subject line of your email is the most important aspect of it. If your subject line is not appealing then your email will not be opened. If your email isn’t opened then your email will not be read and you will certainly not make any money.
It Doesn’t Matter How Good Your Content Is
You must craft a high quality welcome email to warm your subscribers up and tell them that there will be a lot of high quality advice and information coming their way. This will help to encourage them to look out for your emails and open them. Use “cliff hangers” at the end of each email that provide a taster of what the next email will bring.
You must be committed to providing value with your emails. This will make your subscribers like you and trust you more. Some of your subscribers will be excited to receive your next email when you do this. You need to make offers sometimes and this is perfectly reasonable. Your aim is to educate and solve the problems that your subscriber will be facing.
Do not be fazed by this as it is not difficult to create trust and build a good relationship with your list. When you have this situation then your subject lines do not matter quite as much but they are still important.
Content First Subject Line After
Don’t stress about your subject lines before you write your email content. After writing the content work out which are the most important points and write your subject line around this. Subject lines should be the last thing that you write.
You can still write a good subject line after the content has been written. It should actually be easier to do it this way. Let’s say this article was the email content so a good subject line could be “Get your emails opened with these subject lines” or “Why subject lines are not as important as you think”.
Don’t Do This
Don’t use deceptive or misleading subject lines. People will ignore your emails or worse will unsubscribe. Here are three tactics to definitely avoid:
Issue Commands in your Subject Lines
Don’t issue commands to your subscribers in your subject lines. This tactic is use all of the time and has a very poor success rate. You have probably seen examples of this such as “Check This Out Now”, “Open This Immediately” and “You Must See This”. People are not stupid and they will suspect that this is a sales email.
Don’t Insult with Subject Lines
This is really irritating. People send emails out telling the subscriber that they are disappointed with them. Is this taking care of your list? Definitely not! Some classic examples is the use of subjects such as “I Am Disappointed With You” or “I Am Shocked At You”. The shock and disappointment is that you didn’t purchase the product that was recommended. Don’t treat your precious subscribers like this.
This is where the subject line has absolutely nothing to do with the content of the email. It is just about the worst subject line tactic that you can use. Examples are “Re: Your Support Question”, “Your Verification Is Complete”, “Your Application Has Been Accepted” and the old classic “Your Download Is Ready”. This is cheap and you must not do this.
7. How To Get Your First 100 Subscribers
Getting email subscribers can be done in a number of ways but the recommended method is the implementation of a high quality content strategy. When people read content that is high quality they will believe that you have expertise in your niche and they will trust you. This will make them a lot more willing to become an email subscriber.
You can use different formats for your content so it can be in text form, a podcast (audio) or a video. It is actually best to mix this up as much as you can. Be sure that all of your content is top quality because poor quality content will not be looked at by your visitors and they will never become email subscribers.
How do you Define High Quality Content?
This is relatively easy to do. It has to add value to the reader and this is the first important point. Once they have read your content or watched your video they should have learned something or know how to do something that they couldn’t do before.
Always keep your content relevant to the niche that you are operating in. If you are in the make money online niche then create content that helps people to make money on the Internet. People will certainly opt in to your list if you do this.
You need to create a content plan. Determine how often per week you will publish new content and also come up with a list of titles for content that you really believe will add value. A plan always works better than just making it up as you go along. With a plan you will never be stuck for ideas because you have already decided what your content will be about.
Your Lead Magnet Needs to be Great
You are not going to get many people that will subscribe to your email list just because your content is great. There is a real reluctance these days to part with email addresses because of the spam problem. So you need a great lead magnet to provide the necessary incentive for your visitors to opt in.
The lead magnet can be a written document such as a report or even a video. Think your lead magnet through carefully and ensure that it will add value. A poor lead magnet will lead to lots of unsubscribes from your list and you don’t want that to happen.
Position Yourself in front of Targeted Traffic
When you are starting out you need targeted traffic that is interested in your niche. Creating content that is never viewed can seem like a total waste of time but keep going. Getting 10 – 20 visitors a month to your website is very demoralizing so this is what you can do:
Establish the relevant social channels for your brand. Be sure to use your name or the name of your brand in your channel. Depending upon your niche you will want to have channels on YouTube, Facebook, Google+, Twitter and LinkedIn.
In Google+, LinkedIn and Facebook you can find groups that are related to your niche. Be sure to post regularly to these groups but do not spam them. You can get a lot of traffic to your website by doing this. Create a specific Facebook page and also use Twitter to get your message out.
There are content aggregators that can help you to get your posts distributed. Finding them is easy – just use your favorite search engine. You can blog on LinkedIn and Quora for even more traffic. Always be looking at ways to build your following. Guest posting on high traffic blogs is also a good traffic strategy.
8. Great Tools For List Building
You can get things done easier and faster with the right tools. In this article we will recommend the best tools for your email marketing business as well as some others that can be of great assistance.
A Good Autoresponder
You must have a good autoresponder. There are two options open to you here which are subscribing to an autoresponder service or hosting your own autoresponder software. With an autoresponder service you will pay a company on a monthly basis to store your list and send out emails.
Hosting your own autoresponder software will require some technical knowledge and if you don’t have this then choose an autoresponder service. You have to pay monthly for the service but there are no hassles and you can send as many emails as you want.
If you are technically minded then hosted software could be a good option for you as there are no monthly payments. But your web hosting company may impose a limit on the amount of emails that you can send in a day. You do not want your business to be limited.
Some of the best autoresponder service companies are Aweber, GetResponse and Mailchimp. You can expect to pay around $20 a month to start with and the cost will increase with the size of your list.
Software to Make Squeeze Pages
There are a number of software services and programs for creating squeeze pages that can save you a lot of time. Some of the services will create your entire sales funnel for you which is great. This includes one time offer pages, download pages and thank you pages.
Check out Leadpages if you are interested in this. They will charge a monthly fee but they will host your pages for you. Leadpages will integrate with most of the popular autoresponder services. A complete sales funnel designed in around 10 minutes is possible.
WordPress users can take advantage of free and premium plugins and themes. You can produce excellent looking squeeze pages using a premium theme such as Optimize Press or a premium plugin like Instabuilder.
Software for Email Capture
All blog owners should capture email addresses and there are some WordPress plugins that you can use to do this. There is the Sumome plugin and the MailMunch plugin for a start. Popups can be created as well as top bar forms and side forms and there are a lot more facilities on offer.
Software for Surveys
A good method to get email subscribers is to run a survey on your blog or website. Survey Monkey offers a simple way to do this. They have a free version that will collect 100 responses and this is recommended before you buy the full product. There are a number of other survey plugins available so get searching.
Checking Your Grammar
An email that goes out with bad grammar will not get a very good response. Most of the popular autoresponder services will have a spellcheck facility and some may check grammar on a basic level.
If you want to ensure that your grammar is top notch then try Grammarly. You can install it quickly and easily on Windows or as an extension for Google Chrome. Each time you use the Internet Grammarly will monitor your grammar and make suggestions to you.
9. Choosing the Best Autoresponder Service
There is no other tool more important for your email marketing business than your autoresponder. Choosing the wrong autoresponder service is going to cause you major headaches. It could mean that the delivery rate of your emails is low and a host of other issues that you don’t want to deal with. Read this article carefully so that you make the right decision.
Is the Autoresponder Service Established?
Do not overlook this point. Check the time that the autoresponder company has been operating and providing its services. Established companies will have developed a good relationship with email providers such as Yahoo, Gmail and Hotmail and this is vital to get your messages through.
If your autoresponder does not have this kind of relationship then your emails could end up in spam boxes rather than your subscriber’s inbox. Look for companies that have been in existence for at least seven years or more.
What About Delivery Rates?
The more established and higher quality autoresponder companies will publish their delivery rate metrics for you to see. The higher the better of course and you will be well advised to go with a company that provides good delivery rates. If your emails are not getting to your subscribers then you will not make any money.
The best autoresponder companies will probably publish delivery rates in the region of 99%. Be sure to check out their public numbers on this. It is also a pretty well known fact that if you use double opt in your delivery rate numbers will be better than single opt in.
Is it easy to use the service?
The first two points are more important than this one but this is still something that you should investigate. Take a look at the website of the autoresponder company and see if the navigation is straight forward. If it is then there is a good chance that the autoresponder service will be easy too.
Processes that are counter intuitive and chunky are not recommended. Most services offer drag and drop facilities and this is good. Take a look at training videos provided by the company to see how easy everything looks. There will be more videos on YouTube.
How much does the service cost?
Your autoresponder service is precious to you so the cost should be your last consideration. It is true that the best autoresponder services can be pretty expensive and they usually charge more per month as your list of subscribers gets bigger. Try to arrive at a final three autoresponder services so that you can make a comparison on price.
Take advantage of any 30 day free trial offers (or $1 offers) that the autoresponder companies are offering. Add some emails and send them to email addresses that you own (you may have to set up a Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail accounts). How do they perform? Did the emails get delivered?
Make sure that you play around with the user interface to see how easy to use it is. Use all of the trial period and make your decision just before the trial expires. If you have provided payment details then cancel this if you are not going ahead with the service. Take your time to choose the best autoresponder service and it will support your email marketing efforts for years to come.
10. Getting Responsive Subscribers
It is the aim of all email marketers to have a list full of people that read their emails and make a purchase when they present offers. This is unrealistic, but what you don’t want is a list full of tire kickers and freebie seekers. There is no way that you can totally control this of course but there are some things you can do to minimize getting the wrong kind of subscribers.
What are your traffic sources?
Where your traffic comes from is a very important factor. Traffic that originates from a source that is cheap will rarely produce a list of buyers. Resist the temptation to use “safe lists” for traffic or a similar service where you have to subscribe to their list and then they will join yours. These people will never even read your emails let alone make a purchase.
You must ensure that your traffic is targeted. If your niche is making money online then traffic that originates from the Warrior Forum is likely to produce better subscribers because it is targeted. Don’t go to general forums to get your traffic – it won’t turn out well. Using Facebook ads is a good idea as you can really be specific about the demographics.
Although almost everyone is interested in making more money, traffic from unrelated websites is likely to lead to freebie seekers and tire kickers. They just want information. Warrior Forum members are genuinely interested about making money online so they are likely to be more responsive.
Consider Using Double Opt-In
Another mistake that a lot of email marketers make is to immediately redirect a visitor to their lead magnet download page once they have opted in. You have no idea whether the email address used by the visitor is real or not so this is just giving away your lead magnet for free.
Yes you can lose a few opt ins with double opt in but you will end up with a better class of subscriber. If they are prepared to go to the trouble of confirming their interest then they are more likely to read your emails when you send them. If they can’t be bothered then you don’t want them anyway.
To increase the number of opt ins be sure to get people more excited about your lead magnet and your email newsletter after they have opted in. Direct them to a web page which will do this. Tell them that you offer a great deal of value with your lead magnet and your emails.
Be up front with your subscribers and tell them that you will send emails that contain offers sometimes. Measure your open rates and click rates all the time. Your autoresponder service will provide this information. Tell your subscribers that you are doing this and it will deter some tire kickers.
Track Activity and Clean your List
Take a close look at the subscriber activity in your list. If you have a number of subscribers that have not opened any of your emails for a while then it is best to get shot of them. There could be several reasons why a subscriber is not opening your emails:
- They don’t like your email content
- They do not use the email address any more
- They have forgotten who you are
- They are freebie seekers
This is a great way to cleanse your list:
Find all subscribers that have not opened emails for 3 months.
Remove these people from your primary list and add them to a new list.
Send out three broadcast messages to them on different days advising them of the situation and asking them to re-subscribe if they want to continue receiving your newsletter.
11. Do Not Make These Email Marketing Mistakes
You want to make money from your email marketing efforts and you need to ensure that you do not make big mistakes, or else you will end up with unhappy subscribers that will unsubscribe. So take notice of these big email marketing mistakes and make sure that you avoid them.
Don’t Use Misleading Or Hyped Up Subject Lines
You need to do everything that you can to get your emails opened. Using a subject line that is misleading or pure hype is not the way to go. Your subscribers will not appreciate this and it will drive them to the unsubscribe link very quickly.
Hype subject lines include things like “You Can’t Miss Out On This” or “You Have To Open This Now”. People will be insulted by this and think that you are stupid. They will not open these kinds of emails because they know you are selling something.
A misleading subject line is even worse. You have probably seen subject lines like “Your Download Is Ready” or “You Have Been Verified”. Do not use these tactics or your list will unsubscribe in droves. Another classic is to use “Re:” so that it looks like a reply to an email the subscriber sent. You will soon have no subscribers if you do this.
Allow People to Reply
If you send out your emails and they have “No Reply” in them then this is bad. Your subscriber will get a bounce back if they try and reply. Don’t deny your subscribers the chance to interact with you so let them reply to you.
If you use the “No Reply” tactic it looks like you do not want to talk to your subscribers. This is a really bad thing and you must avoid it. The whole point of email is to communicate two ways so be sure that this is enabled.
Sending Emails that Have No Value
You see this all the time in the make money online niche. People send out emails that have no value in them whatsoever. They just send emails about the latest products and services and they are all sales orientated.
Your subscribers will not appreciate being bombarded with sales messages. Take the time to build trust and a good relationship with your list. Provide advice and guidance and case studies to solve problems where you can. They will appreciate this and be more willing to buy when you do make an offer.
Avoid Long and Short Emails
This is all a question of balance. Really short emails can be perceived as hype even if they are not. A very long text based email will probably not get read as it is too much trouble. People are far too busy to read thousands of words in an email.
Sometimes you will have a lot of information to pass on to your subscribers. The best way to approach this is to break it down into a number of different emails. You must always think about the reader and whether or not your email will overwhelm them. This will take a bit of practice but it is worth getting it right.
12. How to Write an Opt-In Landing Page That Converts
If you are using a landing page or squeeze page to try and get subscribers for your list, then knowing how to write persuasive text will make all the difference to your success. If you do this well, then you can make your mailing list sound like a fantastic opportunity that anyone would be mad to turn down. What’s more, you can sell the ‘value proposition’ and help your visitors to imagine how signing up might benefit them.
So how do you go about doing this? If you don’t naturally have the gift of the gab, how do you get that audience eating out of your hands? Follow these tips and your pros should be far more effective at converting.
Use a Narrative
People love following a narrative. We are naturally compelled to find stories about other people interesting and that’s why we’ll often find ourselves watching trash on TV.
When writing a landing page, your main objective is to try and get people interested right from the start and to hook them in before they leave the site. Using a narrative structure is a great way to achieve that and to compel your audience to read on – so tell them how the information you’re sharing helped you and get them to emotionally invest in what you’re saying.
Skip the Introduction
Also important for getting people to engage from the start is to skip past the introduction and to get right to the point. Don’t build anticipation for what you’re about to say or set the scene, just hit them with what you’re going to share or with a surprising statistic.
Appeal to Facts
Speaking of which, quoting facts and figures is a great way to support your point. Again, it’s a natural inclination for us to trust numbers and this is a great way to lend more credibility to what you’re saying.
Having lots of bold headings is a good way to break up your text and make it less daunting and easier to read. Moreover, it means that you can still reel in those readers who are just ‘skimming’ over your content. This is how a lot of people read, so your objective is to tell the whole story through your headings if possible.
Sell the Value Proposition
Finally, try to focus on what it is that you’re actually selling. See past the e-mails themselves and find the actual value. How will they benefit your readers? How will it change their life?
13. How to Use Social Media to Build Your List
Social media is a fantastic marketing tool and there are many ways you can monetize a large number of followers or likes and be highly successful as a result.
At the same time though, social media also has some significant limitations. Chief among these is the fact that it means you’re relying on a third party to give you access to your fans. If Facebook change their terms and conditions (which they often do) your ‘page’ can become worthless to you overnight. What’s more, if someone leaves Facebook, you’ll lose access to them.
A mailing list is a much better and more direct way to communicate with your followers then but unfortunately it is also harder to build and grow seeing as people can tend to be rather protective over their personal details.
The goal then, is to take your social media account and to convert those followers into subscribers. Here’s how you can go about doing this.
One of the main ways you can turn your social media followers into subscribers is to share content. This way, you’ll get them to leave the social media site and go somewhere where you can embed an opt-in form.
And the best part? The content doesn’t even have to be yours. There are tools out there that allow you to add links that show pop-up boxes when someone tries to leave. That way, you can find content in your niche that is performing very well and then share it knowing it will be successful with your opt-in form showing over the top!
Talk About Your Offers and Products
With a social media account you have a captive audience and you can use that to build interest in what you’re offering. If you often provide discounts and special offers from your mailing list then you can just talk about all the exciting offers and provide links to your mailing list.
Likewise, if you have a forthcoming product, you can talk about how it will change everything and suggest people subscribe if they want more information.
Using social media gives you a great chance to engage and discuss things with your audience. Make sure you ask and answer questions and create discussion. This way, people will feel more ‘involved’ with what you are doing and will want to take that further by signing up to become a ‘VIP’ member.
Most importantly, make sure you provide value by making interesting and entertaining posts regularly. This way people will assume your mailing list will offer value too!
14. How to Build Your List From Forums
Forums and online communities offer a fantastic opportunity for email marketing. If you’re looking for somewhere that you can build and grow a list, then these can provide a fertile resource with lots of benefits. Here we will list some of them and provide tips on how to use them more effectively.
What Are Forums? And How to Find Them
A forum is an online community in the shape of a message board. Here, people can post questions, raise items for discussion and generally throw ideas back and forth. For anyone interested in a subject, this is a great place to meet like-minded people and to get and share information.
Unfortunately, forums are becoming increasingly scarce. Some big ones do still exist but in other cases they have been replaced by other online communities such as Sub Reddits. Either way, they can still be just as effective.
Whenever you get a group of people together with a similar interest this is always going to look like a nice, big, juicy target for an internet marketer. Thus, these forums tend to be on the receiving end of a lot of marketing and a lot of spam.
So if you sign up to a forum and then right away post a link to your landing page, you can bet that you’re going to get deleted and banned. Oops. Instead then, you need to make sure you become an active part of the community and provide some value of your own. Contribute to the discussion, answer questions and demonstrate yourself to be an authority on your subject.
Then, only promote your landing page or mailing list when it comes up naturally. This way, when it does come up, people will know they can trust you and what’s more they will actually like you. You’d be surprised what a lot of good a little good will can do – you may even find that they help you to promote your list!
Using Your Signature
If you do want to use a little trick to gain more exposure though, then you can always try adding your URL to your signature. This is the passage of text that is automatically added to the bottom of every post and this is a nice subtle way that people can find out more about you – and your list – if they should be interested to.
15. Ways to Get More Subscribers Without Spending a Cent
Building a mailing list is a fantastic marketing strategy in terms of ROI (return on investment). That is to say, that the amount you have to spend on building a list is relatively very small compared to the amount you can potentially stand to earn. This is one of the biggest appeals of this form of marketing and particularly for very small businesses, start-ups and entrepreneurs.
At the same time though, there certainly are some expenses involved in creating a mailing list. For starters, you’ll have to pay for your autoresponder. Then there’s the cost of hosting and of your domain name. Then there’s advertising. It’s not a lot but it adds up!
This is why it’s refreshing to find that there are actually numerous things you can do to build more subscribers completely for free. Here we will look at a few of them:
Ask Your Subscribers to Spread the Word
Once you have built up a small number of subscribers, there’s no reason you can’t ask them to help you in increasing your list. Ask them to spread the word if they enjoy your content and potentially even incentivize them to do so.
Do an Ad Swap
Likewise, if you know another email marketer in your niche, you can make a pact to promote one another. It’s completely free and because you’re getting an endorsement from someone who has already built up trust, it can be highly effective.
Promote Your List on Reddit
Reddit is an incredibly potent platform when it comes to extending your reach. Here you can find targeted viewers who are interested in your niche and get your message seen by countless people!
Make Your Giveaway ‘Limited Time Only’
Want to create a sudden surge of people signing up for your list? Tell them that the current giveaway is only going to be offered for the next week. This applies time pressure which is a fantastic way to drive more conversions.
Tweak Your Page
Simply moving your ‘subscribe’ button to the bottom right of your page has been shown to increase conversions. The same goes for making subscribe buttons red. Either way, these are simple and easy changes you can make with very immediate results so it’s a great way to try and get more people to sign up.
These are just some of the things you can do completely for free to get more e-mails. Give them a go and how easily you can profit from zero investment! You don’t always have to spend to accumulate.
16. Types of Opt-in Bribes You Can Offer to Build Your List
When creating your opt-in form to begin email marketing, you should always ask yourself a simple question: why should anyone be willing to give you their email address? What are you going to offer them in return? And how is your list going to give them value in exchange for that personal information?
Often the best answer to these questions is: with an incentive (or ‘bribe’ as it’s often referred to). Here we will look at some options for things you can give away for free that will make your mailing list into a great opportunity for your readers.
Free reports are usually short reads that are about 5-20 pages long and that will share a specific tip, expose or insight. These should offer clear value to your readership whether that means saving them money, helping them to get into better shape or teaching them how to date. What’s more, you should sell them as being ‘exclusive’ to increase excitement.
Ebooks tend to offer large introductory guides to a subject and provide great value as a freebie. Often they will be around 20-100 pages long and include graphics and formatting that would normally cost money. They’re great incentives but do involve a little more incentive on your part.
Host some videos on a server somewhere and provide access to that server in exchange for your users’ e-mails. Videos offer a fantastic way to really engage with your audience and make your business seem very professional and capable. It does help though if you know an editor and have the equipment.
An eCourse is a series of e-mails providing instruction and training on a certain subject. These are very effective because it means the e-mails become the incentive in themselves – and that way you know that your readers will have their eyes perpetually trained on their inboxes.
You can offer a free app or another ‘tool’ to your members, or even give them access to a web-app that runs in the browser in exchange for their e-mails.
A Resource List
A comprehensive list of resources offers great value and it’s very easy, cheap and quick for you to create.
These are just some options for incentives and freebies. There are many more but always ask yourself when choosing whether the incentive is a) inviting enough and b) going to help serve your goals.
17. Best Email Marketing Practices
When using email marketing to promote a product, brand or service, you have the ability to reach people right in their inboxes and thus to have a very personal and profound impact. The statistics clearly show that this is a highly effective way to promote a product and to potentially make a lot of money but you know what they say: with great power comes great responsibility.
Read on then and we’ll look at some ‘best practices’ for email marketing that can avoid you making any awkward faux pas. Not only will this help you to avoid frustrating your audience but it will also help you to get more clicks and conversions by not rubbing them up the wrong way.
Two a Week is Enough
You may choose to send a higher volume of emails to build anticipation for a product or promotion. The rest of the time though, try to avoid going beyond 2 a week. Otherwise you’ll just frustrate your audience and they’ll quickly become sick of your messages.
Avoid ALL CAPS
All caps is annoying wherever it’s located but in your inbox it’s particularly abrasive and rude. Don’t do it!
Use Re: With Caution
Using ‘Re:’ in the subject header is a great way to draw attention to your e-mails. It’s also somewhat manipulative though and essentially amounts to tricking your readers. Don’t overdo this method then.
Make Unsubscribing Easy
If you use Aweber or GetResponse then unsubscribing should be easy. This is key – as otherwise you can do serious damage to your brand and reputation.
Whether or not your e-mails are welcome in someone’s inbox or frustrating will ultimately probably depend on whether or not you provide value. As long as you offer value, people will have a good reason to read what you’re sending them and they’ll be glad for it. Consistently do this and don’t send lots of messages that are just self-promoting.
Yes, you can sell an e-mail list for a fair amount of money. However, unless you have explicitly gotten permission from your subscribers this is something you should not do.
Ultimately, you are a guest in your subscribers’ homes. Act that way and treat them with respect and gratitude – it will ultimately be better for you and them in the long run.
18. Creative Ways to Build a List of Subscribers
Sometimes great marketing means being able to think outside the box. This way, you can find new ways to make your content and products seem interesting, you can reach people in ways and places they otherwise wouldn’t expect and you can find new opportunities that others missed. Creativity is often what sets the successes apart from the failures, so read on to see 10 creative ways you can build subscribers for your list.
Running a competition is a great way to collect e-mails and to create some excitement around your list. You can even team up with another brand!
Or how about an on-going competition in the form of a prize draw? You can even be creative on what the prizes are. How about a mystery surprise.?
Get Your Subscribers to Grow Your List for You!
Tell your subscribers you’ll share your most powerful tip but only if they help you grow your list to an extra 100!
Member of the Week
Get your members excited to be a part of something by featuring a regular ‘member of the week’.
Chats and Meetups
Another way to make your list more engaging and to build buzz is to have chats, seminars and meet-ups. You can do them online or even in person!
Market members of your list to the other members of your list. This way you give them a financial motive for signing up!
You can even run an affiliate scheme and pay other marketers for getting members onto your list. As long as you have a good monetization method, this will provide a return on investment.
Ad an online tool to your website but require an e-mail address for people to sign up and use it. Of course, the real creativity comes from knowing what to create!
Throw an Event
You can even throw an event in real life in order to get people in one place where you can hand out cards or collect e-mails. If you’re not up for throwing an event then just attend one such as a tradeshow or networking event.
Publish Your Emails Online
Want to demonstrate what amazing value and quality you are offering with your emails? Then why not publish them on your site! Or better yet, publish a portion of them on your site so that people have to keep reading by signing up!
17. How to Keep Your Subscribers Active on Your Newsletter
If you’re sitting on a mailing list of 1,000+ right now, then chances are you’re probably feeling pretty smug. A lot of digital marketers would give their left arm to be in your position and the potential for earning from this is huge. It’s taken work and dedication but you did it – and you deserve to give yourself a pat on the back.
But just having a mailing list is not enough. This is only a small part of the puzzle. What’s actually more important is to keep your subscribers engaged. That means making sure they keep reading, it means making sure that they are keen to find out more about what you’re selling and it means having them primed to convert and buy your products when the time comes. Let’s look at how you can go about doing that.
If you have a mailing list and you message your members once every month, then you can’t expect them to be all that interested in what you have to say. There is a momentum here, so you need to keep up that relationship and ensure that you stay in the forefront of their minds. Avoid a situation where they see your name in their inbox and think: ‘who?’.
But Not Too Regularly
On the other hand though, don’t message four times a week to the point where they’re sick of hearing from you. Leave them wanting more, not feeling desensitized to your message and anything you possibly could have to say.
This is the most important point of all. Make sure that your e-mails provide value in some form or other by being entertaining, informative or useful. Try to give some kind of tip in every single message that will have a positive impact on their lives and this way they will end up looking forward to what’s coming next.
Being a tease is a good thing in the world of digital marketing. Tell your readers what is coming up next and try to build some anticipation at the end of each message. Think of this like a serial novel being published in a magazine – end every chapter on a cliff-hanger!
Another useful strategy is to ask questions or even to ask your members for favors. This is a very personal way to communicate with an audience, so take advantage of that by actually interacting with them. If they feel they’re contributing, then they’ll be more likely to want to help.
20. The Battle of the Autoresponder: Aweber VS GetResponse
When it comes to building and using a mailing list, there are certain tools that can help and certain tools that are an absolute must.
Key among that second category are autoresponders. Autoresponders are tools that you use to manage your list and that allow your members to sign up and unsubscribe while giving you a convenient place to store your email addresses, to send out e-mails, to create autoresponder sequences and to build your opt-in forms.
The question is: which autoresponder do you spring for?
There are two big options here: Aweber and GetResponse. Read on and we’ll look at how they differ and which is ultimately the best for your goals.
When it comes to cost, there is no clear winner as they both use somewhat ‘non-linear’ pricing structures. An Aweber subscription fee will set you back $19 a month, $49 a quarter or $194 a year. You can save money by paying up-front though but either way you’ll have to pay an additional fee depending on how many users you have. If you have under 500 there’s no additional fee but for accounts with 500+ there’s an additional $10 charge. This goes all the way up to $130 if you have 10,000+ and there’s an ‘unlisted’ fee for accounts with over 25,000 addresses.
GetResponse meanwhile only has a monthly pricing plan which starts at $15 for 1,000 members and goes all the way up to $250 for 50,000 members. 25,000 will cost you $145.
So the ‘winner’ here really depends on how many subscribers you have. Ultimately though, GetResponse will be a little cheaper in most scenarios which gives it an edge. In the long term, the winner will also depend on what the ‘unlisted’ fee for Aweber is for 25,000+ members. It just says to ‘contact Aweber’ which is worrying.
In terms of features, who wins? Both have all the tools and options you might want but according to the majority of feedback on the web, Aweber is slightly easier and more intuitive to navigate and use. Aweber also claims it has the best delivery rates with little to no of their emails ending up in spam. They also have very highly rated customer service.
GetResponse might lose a few points in these regards though but is certainly serviceable. And they do have some useful tools of their own too – such as a squeeze page builder. Overall, the two tools are both very capable but Aweber might give you a little extra clout for a slightly higher fee.
21. More Big Mistakes to Avoid When Building a List
When creating a mailing list, it’s not all about size. It is not simply a matter of throwing every technique you can at it in the hope of getting the maximum number of e-mails. While you might be able to get more subscribers in the short-run this way, in the long-haul this will actually create more problems. Read on and we’ll look at three common mistakes that many marketers will make in a bid to quickly swell their numbers.
Giving Away the Wrong Freebie
Giving away freebies as incentives is a great way to encourage more people to sign up but it can also create problems. In particular, if you give away something that is ‘too good’ then you can attract subscribers who are only interested in getting free things; good luck getting them to pay for products later on!
On the other hand though, if you give away an ebook or report that is sub-par, then you’ll risk demonstrating to your subscribers that you don’t deal with quality. Again, good luck getting them to buy from you later down the line.
Not Getting Targeted Subscribers
Similarly problematic is not trying to target your subscribers. In other words, if you are giving away a product that isn’t in your niche, or if you are attracting subscribers from a random source, then they won’t be your target demographic. A list of random e-mails is no more useful than a solo ad, so do try to find people who will actually be interested in what you have to say. Better yet, try to develop a relationship with them first via some content marketing.
Doing Everything Yourself
Many marketers want to do everything themselves as a way to save money. That and your typical entrepreneur is naturally a control freak. But by doing everything yourself you will not only waste valuable time but you will also risk doing a worse job than a professional would have done. Need a landing page written but can’t write? Then consider hiring a writer. Need a web design made but don’t have the eye for detail? Hire a designer.
Just as important is to use the right tools. Things like OptimizePress and UnBounce can drastically simplify the process, so don’t stubbornly try to do it all in notepad.
Avoid these three mistakes and your list will grow faster and be much more relevant as a result!
22. Effective Sales Funnels Do A Good Job Pre-Qualifying And Filtering Their Traffic
You probably have seen sales funnels before. You probably have gone through a sales funnel, and didn’t even know it. The truth is effective sales funnels work in an undercover way. They don’t look like sales funnels.
It doesn’t seem like they behave like sales funnels, but believe me, once you whip out your credit card, and enter your credit card information into an online form and make a purchase, you have just been through an effective one.
That’s how awesome sales funnels are. If they were well-put together, they can help you make money from online traffic. The best part is your customers don’t mind. In fact, they would eagerly hand you their money because they can see as they go through your sales funnel, but you are delivering the value that they came for.
Please understand that if you put your marketing materials in front of the right eyeballs, people would be eager to do business with you. How come? They are looking for a solution to their problems. You make it obvious that you have that solution, and that your solution compares so much better than all the other options on the market.
Since they can see the superiority of your offer, they make the move. It’s a win-win situation. They get to solve their issue, you get to make money. What’s not to love? That really is the essence of effective sales funnels.
But you and I know that it isn’t that simple. It’s not simple precisely because a lot of marketers do not pre-qualify their traffic. You have to understand that just because somebody is somewhat, somehow interested in what you have to say, doesn’t necessarily mean that that person is ready, willing, and eager to buy right here, right now.
You have to filter that person. If that person is thinking of maybe buying next year, then that person has to be filtered by your system. You can’t let that person go all the way to the sales page because they’re not going to do you any favors. They’re just going to bounce out. You wasted all that time, effort, and energy creating this system attracting the wrong eyeballs.
An effective sales funnel pre-qualifies people early on. Either they’re interested in your product category, or they’re not. Either they’re interested in a particular line of solutions, or they’re not. Either they’re interested in a particular product, or they’re not. Either they’re interested in buying that particular product from you, or they’re not.
Those are the steps in an effective sales funnel, and these messages have to be strung together the right way. Otherwise, a lot is going to get lost in translation. Also, a lot is going to fall between the cracks. What makes effective sales funnels effective is precisely because they have been optimized over an extended period of time.
This is where a lot of marketers fail. They think that they just need to slap together a nice-looking sales funnel and call it a day. No, that’s actually just the beginning of your journey. So do yourself a big favor. If you are looking to put together an effective sales funnel, that will pre-qualify and filter your traffic for maximum sales conversion, click here.
23. Pre-Qualify Your Traffic To Earn More Money Online
The idea of pre-qualification is very straightforward. If you were going to make money off your online traffic, they better come from places that are populated by people who are already interested in whatever it is you are promoting.
This is pretty straightforward. If you’re selling shoes, for example, you wouldn’t want to advertise in places where people are looking for livestock feed. Those people wouldn’t really care about what you are selling.
I’m sure that a very small fraction of those people are actually on the market for shoes, but they’re primary concern is livestock feed. That’s why they’re going to those places. That’s why they are engaged in discussions and online forums, etc.
The idea of pre-qualification actually makes marketers’ jobs easier because it is the forum or the location that indicates a certain tendency to be interested in a particular topic. Your job as a marketer is just to find these places that are already lined up with the niche, category, or topic of whatever it is you’re promoting. It really is that simple. It’s all about finding that right mix.
Unfortunately, it’s very easy to just get caught up in traffic volume, click-through ratio, and page views, and all that. I’m not saying that those metrics have absolutely no place in marketing, but they are essentially means to an end, but you only should start caring about them once you have established some sort of pre-qualification.
Pre-qualification is the name of the game, if you think about it, because it filters people coming into your website based on their interest. Let’s put it in another way: If your website attracts people who are not at all interested in what you have to say, then no matter how much you optimize click-through rate, page views, and other success metrics, at the end of the day, you’re not going to win with the success metric that is the only thing that really counts. I am, of course, talking about conversions.
The way to pre-qualify your traffic, to earn more money online is pretty straightforward; start with conversion. In other words, start with a big picture view. What is the outcome you’re looking for? And then take steps back from there. This will enable you to create a map as to where on the internet you’re going to create a presence, and how you’re going to deal with people to pre-qualify them.
With pre-qualification guiding you, you are more likely to find the right pockets of existing traffic on the Internet. At the very least, if you are spending money on a paid ad campaign, you would have a good initial profile of the people who are the most likely consumer of your product.
Otherwise, you’re just going to be wasting your time. Sure, from time to time, some people may hit it big, but that’s like buying a lottery ticket. You can’t base your business on getting lucky. To learn how to build a systematic and methodical way to pre-qualify your traffic, so you can earn real big money from the internet, click here.
24. Effective Sales Funnels Produce A Complete Picture For Prospective Buyers
People hate getting tricked. When was the last time somebody pulled a bait-and-switch trick on you? It didn’t feel good right? It wasn’t exactly a happy experience. And the more these tricks are pulled, the more jaded consumers become.
They are always thinking to themselves, “Well, that’s too good to be true. What is that other person getting out of it? How come this seems so smooth and quick?” These are natural questions to ask, because if you’ve been tricked, defrauded, scammed, or otherwise mistreated by online sales pages in the past, you too would develop this kind of attitude.
It is an all too human and all-natural response. As the old saying goes, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” This is why it is imperative for any responsible marketer who is truly interested in becoming successful, to be as transparent, sincere and authentic as possible.
Believe me, I’ve seen a lot of sales funnels on the internet. In fact, a lot of people would say that I’ve seen too much. And I can guarantee you that a lot of the failing sales funnels have one thing in common. They produce an incomplete picture.
This doesn’t mean that you cannot position your product so it looks superior even to a product that is known as the category killer in your industry. This doesn’t mean that you can’t position the product that you’re selling in such a way that it is under the best light possible. That’s different from misrepresentation or lying.
An effective sales funnel must provide a clear picture, and it has to be complete. So you can’t just show your product in a way where the only thing people could see is one dimension of the product. Because once people buy your stuff, and they can see that they actually got taken in because they didn’t see all the other dimensions of your product, how do you think they would feel?
Let’s put it this way, how would you feel if somebody did that to you? So what’s important here is to give the control back to the consumer. When they see a complete picture of the product, and I’m talking about descriptions and reviews that basically point to all the dimensions of the product, both good and bad, they can see that you are a straight shooter. They can see that you are not hiding the ball.
This way, you give them the control, because now, they can still choose your product because they have all these information. Of course, there’s got to be a lot of positioning here. You can’t just say, “Well I have this computer, and it’s kind of in the slow side, here, please buy it for me.” That’s pathetic.
People won’t buy from you because you just said it’s slow. You just have to lay out the numbers, and you have to let them connect the dots. Of course, you can’t do this passively because you also have to position the computer that your selling based on its strength.
Maybe the computer has one of the best screens on the market. Highlight that, then just say that this is the speed. Now if they did the research, they would know that that speed is kind of on the middle of the road or on the slow end, but that’s on them, you did your part. You share the information, you’re not hiding the ball.
Compare this with somebody who’s basically saying that this is the best screen, and that’s all that person said. He didn’t mention the speed. He didn’t mention all the other elements of the computer. That’s going to lead to higher refunds, and a tremendous amount of dissatisfaction.
So do yourself a big favor, set up an effective sales funnel that maximizes transparency, sincerity, and authenticity. To figure out how to do this right, and maximize your profits, click here.
25. What To Look For When Trying To Convert A Customer
For the longest time, sales people were under the impression that they can basically convert anybody. In other words, if a person walked through the door, there is a chance that if the salesperson was skilled enough and knew their craft enough, they can turn that customer into dollars and cents.
Now, we all know that this isn’t true. You can walk into a store for a variety of reasons. Maybe you just like the display, but you really have no intention of buying anything. Maybe a friend brought you. Maybe somebody told you that there’s something interesting going on in the store.
But if you look at all these instances, none of them had the magic ingredient that would translate to a sale. I am, of course, talking about an actual interest in whatever the store is selling. This is where classic salesmanship fails.
And unfortunately, on the internet, marketers are making the same mistake. They think that traffic is traffic, and regardless of where it comes from, and regardless of the initial context in which they generate traffic, they have a good shot at turning those visitors into sales.
Talk about wasting your time. There is such a thing as pre-qualification. It turns out that this is the key to sales. You have to know where people are coming from. You have to set things up in such a way that when people come in, they are predisposed to listening to you, and eventually buying from you.
A lot of this have to do with where they come from. The great thing about the internet is that it’s easier to pre-qualify people. How? Well, let’s put it this way: If you are selling baby shoes, where do you think your ideal target traffic would come from? Baby shoes Facebook groups, baby shoes Facebook pages, baby shoes online forums and message boards, and of course, baby shoes hashtags on instagram.
In other words, when you get traffic from places where people are already talking about topics closely related, or directly related to what you’re selling, your chances of success go up dramatically. But if you spend all your time and effort just trying to pull random traffic from all over the internet, you’re going to have a tough time on your hands.
A lot of this are interest targeting. A big chunk of it is also geographic targeting. Let’s put it this way: If you spend a lot of time promoting your high price tag product in developing countries, you may be able to attract people who really want to buy your product.
The problem is capacity. They are willing to buy, but they are unable to buy because they don’t have the money. So the key to modern salesmanship, as far as online conversions go, is pre-qualification. They have to come from the right places.
They also have to come from places that indicate a high level of preexisting interest in whatever it is you are promoting. These two factors have to be present. Otherwise, you’re going to have a tough time converting that traffic into dollars and cents.
At the very least, you are going to be settling for pennies. At the worst, you’re not going to be making any money at all. To learn how to build an effective system that pre-qualifies and converts your online traffic into big paydays, click here.
26. If You Want To Make Money Online You Have To Understand That Not Everybody Is Going To Buy From You
One of the biggest hurdles many rookie marketers face is psychological; it really is. Because you have to understand that the biggest barriers to our success are the barriers that we ourselves hold up and hang on to. These are psychological. These are attitudes, mindsets, and ideas that we have, and believe me, they have a tremendous impact on our decisions.
When you view the world a certain way, and you don’t walk away from that view, or you refuse to mature or change, you’re holding yourself back. Because mature people change their views based on their experiences.
When they get new information, or go through different experiences, they change their view. That’s the definition of maturity. The problem with a lot of marketers, especially the ones who are struggling, is they refuse to change their views. It’s as if you are interviewing them right at the moment they decided to make money online.
One of the most commonly held views, is that everybody is an ideal customer. I’m not just talking about a potential customer for whatever it is that you’re promoting, but an ideal one. That alone speaks volumes of these people’s ignorance.
Please understand that while it’s true, that all people can be convinced to buy something that they don’t really need, it all boils down to cost, and more importantly, opportunity costs. The direct cause of these is easy to see. If somebody’s not really interested, you can spend a tremendous amount of time in resources; flashing all sorts of ads, blasting that person with all sorts of articles, and reaching out to the people that that person already thinks is credible and authoritative, and maybe you can get that person to sign on the dotted line.
It took a lot of effort. It definitely takes a lot of money. Now, here’s the problem: While you were able to score a victory with that person, how much more sales could you have gotten if you had filtered that person out early on.
In other words, how much more money could you have made if you spent all that time, effort, energy, and money targeting people who are more likely to buy from you. This is called an opportunity cost. So when you tally up all these costs, you actually are wasting money hand over fist, going after the wrong traffic.
The same applies to online sales funnels. The top hallmark of an effective sales funnel is that it is obvious to people who are not interested in whatever you have to offer, that your sales page is not for them. You’re doing both them and yourself a huge favor when you do that.
So the key here is to not worry about creating a sales funnel system that appeals to everybody and anybody from all four corners of the world. That’s not your job. Your job is to find people who are more likely to buy from you and put their eyeballs in front of a system that is finely-tuned to convert as much of those people as possible.
I hope you can understand the difference. This is not about universal appeal. Instead, it’s all about highly-filtered and specific appeal. To learn how to put an effective sales funnel together, so that it quickly filters out uninterested individuals, and maximizes your efforts on converting prospects who are interested, click here.
27. People lose track of what they’re converting for and that’s why they struggle
Some people think that they just need to copy and paste what somebody else is doing and they will end up producing the same results. There are tons of “Warrior Special Offers” making this claim. Don’t believe the hype.
Let’s cut straight to the chase: just because someone posts nice screenshots of amazing results doesn’t mean they are showing you the complete picture. Who knows what they actually did to produce those numbers? Outside of flat out scams where promoters post fake or doctored statistics (these are more prevalent than most people think!) you can’t really give too much weight to online income claims because you don’t know those awesome numbers’ context.
Maybe they bought very expensive traffic? Maybe they got access to cross registration traffic? Maybe they have high refund or chargeback rates? There are just so many unanswered questions about those rosy statistics.
What makes those especially dangerous is when they get you excited about statistics that are supposed to lead to conversions: page views, ad clicks, dwell time, total pages viewed, etc. Many rookie marketers fall for the bait. And they continue to suffer.
I used to think that way. Things started to change for me when I focused on one key thing: remember that conversions are sales.
Conversions measure whether you made money or not. Simple black and white open and shut case.
The problem is, it’s very easy to get confused with all the intermediate processes that have to happen before dollars appear in your bank account. In the beginning, I was all excited about how many people showed up at my site.
I was really ecstatic one day and I was able to break the 5,000 visitor mark. I didn’t make a penny that day, but it didn’t matter because 5,000 people showed up on my site. The metric that I should have paid attention to was my bounce rate. When I got my act together and checked my statistics and looked at my bounce rate, it was 98%.
In other words, in those 5,000 people that showed up on my website, only a tiny fraction even bothered checking my internal pages. It was no surprise that I did not make any money.
What happened to me is a very familiar story. I am hardly alone because when people lose track of what they’re really converting for, they struggle. Focus instead on the prize.
What is the prize? It’s the amount of money you are making off your sites on a passive basis. That’s the name of the game. As far as you should be concerned, anything else is just noise. Don’t get side tracked by ‘alternative success metrics.’ Focus on the bottom line.
Understand what you’re doing. You’re trying to make passive income. You’re trying to build something once and make money many times over. But for all that to happen, you have to focus on conversions. 28. Sales funnels are not the same as content funnels
Are you having a tough time with your sales funnel? Chances are you’ve set up your website the wrong way or you’re probably just blogging or posting content in the hope that somehow, someway, somebody would click on a link that somehow, someway would put dollars in your pockets.
Unfortunately, the whole “somehow, someway” mentality is not going to ticket to riches. If you are serious about making any kind of money from the internet, you have to pay close attention to funnel building. The problem is a lot of people are confused as to the kind of funnels they should be building. They put themselves in that situation because they did not go about it in a systematic and methodical way.
Content funnels explained
Content funnels are all about turning traffic that is looking for certain types of content and filtering those people in a way, eventually will convert into buyers. Content fans are all about building credibility and authority. When you plug them into a content funnel, their questions get answered and before you know it, they build more and more trust in whatever it is you are promoting.
This can then lead to email list members which you can then convert later through a future update. This can also lead to actual sales right then and there. Pair this from simply pulling traffic from the internet by dropping links, or buying traffic and then people will see a sales page, realize they are not interested and then they bounce out. There’s really not much opportunity in building credibility. It’s really important to understand that sales funnels are very different from content funnels.
Building proper sales funnels
You can actually build a complete sales funnel into one page. This is called a conversion page.
You buy traffic or get organic traffic and people come in and read the page. The more they read the page, the more they find details and they answer questions and the more they may build trust. Eventually, the person who reads the bottom of the page is the one to most likely click the order now button. What happens to everybody else? They bounce out.
After they read the content on the sales page, they realize that they probably not interested or whatever value proposition the product you’re promoting doesn’t really appeal to them. So the conversion page did its job. It filtered people. Content funnels, on the other hand, qualify prospects over an extended period of time.
Content funnels are powerful because they can rapidly build trust in the mind of the visitor. Almost everyone who finds themselves on your site are looking for answers. They haver certain questions they want answered.
When they get their initial questions answered, most would want to bounce out. But if you have other content on your pages that speaks to other questions they may have or, better yet, deep needs they may have, you get a chance to pull them deeper into your site and impress them even more.
The deeper they go into your site, the more likely they are to join your mailing list or click an ad. Set up properly, content funnels build enough trust for consumers to want to click through to an actual conversion sales funnel.
Understand that these funnels are quite different from each other. Don’t confuse the two.
To figure out how to set up the right funnels and optimize them for maximum profits, click here.
29. Why do people confuse sales funnels with content funnels?
The real reason why people confuse sales funnels with content funnels is because of terminology. “Sales funnel” can apply to mailing lists. It can apply to social media. It can apply to paid campaigns and many other content channels that have trust building capabilities.
Unfortunately, it’s too easy to confuse form with function and end up with a hazy view of what kind of outcome to shoot for.
Get back to basics
You have to understand the idea behind sales funnels is to turn traffic and plug it into a system to separate people who are not interested from people who are. And when you identify people who are interested, you push them into a lower level that increases their demand or willingness to buy.
Sounds pretty simple and basic, no?
The problem is that when marketers come across this form of sales funnel, they automatically assume that publishing content that filters people work exactly the same way. Content funnels are different from sales funnels.
Content funnels can be plugged into sales funnels but content funnels need and demand attention by themselves. When you are setting up a content funnel for your dog breed website, remember what your end goal is.
Your goal isn’t to set up an online home for people looking for anything and everything related to dog breeds. That’s nice to achieve but you have to go several levels deeper. Your goal is to sell dog supplies. This is what gives you your bread and butter.
You have to set up your content in such a way that you can eventually get people to buy those dog supplies. Otherwise, you’re just wasting lots of time posting content that has no chance of turning your site’s traffic into revenue.
Using the right content structure is the key to success
So you start off with questions that are going to be asked by people who are looking for dog supplies and then you lead them into a comparison page of many different options available so you can make the product category you are actually promoting stand out. From there, you can then start zeroing in on specific products.
You have to build trust.
When was the last time you bought something from a complete stranger? I will guess that the answer would be never. If that is your answer, you are absolutely normal and average because most people would not spend their hard earned money on somebody they do not know. It’s all about building trust and you have to set up your content funnel in such a way that you build heavier and heavier trust until finally, they’re ready to trust you with their hard earned money. This can take the form of review page, you can plug in your content funnel into a sales page. There are so many ways you can do this. Unfortunately, people confuse these two so instead of building trust, they’re basically just repeating the same information. The more you repeat information, the less effective your messaging becomes. Don’t confuse the two types of funnels.
30. Optimizing a content funnel is very different from optimizing a sales funnel
At a certain level, optimizing a content funnel and optimizing a sales funnel are quite similar. Both use text to filter out people who are interested in a product or service from mere curiosity seekers or tire kickers. Both can use multi-page approaches to get their message across. Both might even use a mailing list as a valuable persuasive add-on. Obviously, both restort to multimedia elements like diagrams, pictures, photos, videos, infographics, and others to gain the viewer’s confidence and trust.
Still, despite their seemingly long list of similarities, they are not one and the same.
Marketers who confuse the two end up losing money. At the very least, even in the best scenarios, they end up settling for cents on the dollar.
You have to be aware of the key difference between these two funnels so you can use the right funnel to achieve the outcome you are gunning for. Otherwise, you will constantly find yourself barking up the wrong tree.
The problem is a content funnel has a different form of success than a sales funnel.
A sales funnel’s success is very easy to determine and measure. It boils down to sales. Did you get the sale or not? If not, why not? There’s a black and white quality to slicing and dicing the effectiveness of a sales funnel. It’s all about conversions.
Optimizing a content funnel on the other hand is a little bit trickier because remember that the content funnel is what happens before the sales funnel or conversion process. That’s how it’s supposed to work. You have to look at content funnels on their own terms. Here is the process that I use to optimize the success of my content funnel.
Pay close attention to your statistics
Pay close attention to your website statistics, you will see which pages are the number one entry pages. These are pages that people use the most to access your website. These pages have a certain topic. Obviously, most of your traffic thinks these topics are interesting enough to want to seek and click through pages that focus on those topics.
Figure out what’s working and build more of such pages. But before you do, please read the section below.
Pay attention to where those top pages lead to. You’ll notice that there is a path that most of your visitors use. Your job is to replicate that path.
When you do this, you amplify the authority that you’re creating in the mind of the reader. If you notice that some go halfway but later bounce out, try to figure out what they were doing in those pages and replicate it with other paths.
This process also requires critical and analytical thinking. Don’t assume anything. Look to connect the dots. Look for consistent patterns over an extended period of time. To get a winning formula on how to optimize your sales and content funnels like a pro, click here.
31. Why is the “build it and they will come” mindset so prevalent and fatal?
Have you heard the phrase “build it and they will come”? The truth is, too many people believe this and that’s why they struggle. This mindset has killed so many online entrepreneurial dreams that it’s quite a tragedy.
How does this mindset lead to disaster? Here’s the typical timeline: You may be really excited about a new concept, you might think that your website is the best thing to come around. Just because you’re excited about a particular topic doesn’t necessarily mean that the rest of the world will be excited as well.
If it turns out that there is a big disconnect between your personal excitement and your project and the actual demand for the things you are promoting, what do you think will happen? A whole lot of nothing. I raise this issue because a lot of people believe in “build it and they will come.”
They are simply to personally wrapped up in their ‘vision’ that they don’t fully vet or test it. At the end of the day, it is market demand that will determine if your project is a success or a failure. Not your excitement. Not your personal ‘vision.’ Too many entrepreneurs are blind to this.
The bottom line? You have to build the right thing.
How do you fix this problem? Take yourself out of the picture and focus on other people. Look for demand. Join as many Facebook groups and pages as possible, go to reddit and subscribe to as many sub-reddits as possible, go to Quora, and take a long hard look at the questions and patterns that appear.
After you do this research and filter it through the Google Keyword Planner Tool, you will get some basic patterns. When people talk about topics, at some level, this reflects demand. Look at the demand levels and cross reference this with potential commercial products.
If people are talking about getting certain types of plastic surgery and there is a favorable traffic patterns regarding terms related to that procedure, you can look for plastic surgery referral websites that pay an affiliate commission. You can then build content that answers those plastic surgery related questions and then convert them into conversion pages for the referral site you are referring.
Basically, you begin with existing demand, build content around the demand, and then you convert the traffic that is driven by the demand. This is how you play the game.
When you subscribe to the “build it and they will come” mindset, you basically are saying to the world that you are such a super genius that you know the trends and you have these visions of hot topics and hot products that people just have to listen to you.
Chances are, people will say “what the hell are you talking about?” Or “I am not interested in what you have to say.” To build a solid business that is completely free of the quote “build it and they will come” mindset, click here.
Appendix A. Bonus: Top 5 Online Passive Income Sources
The majority of people that are really making it big online every month are using passive income models to do this. They are not trading their time for money and they know that a small amount of time invested in their business will make a big difference every day. They are making money while they sleep.
There are many passive income models that you can choose from and we have selected the top 5 for you in this report. These are 1) email marketing, 2) product creation, 3) publishing eBooks on Amazon, 4) creating an authority blog, and 5) selling physical products through Fulfillment By Amazon (FBA). These are all fairly straight forward to implement and they have unlimited potential. They will be discussed in this guide.
I want you to use this guide to your advantage. I have provided the main reason and the biggest drawback of each model so you can make the decision which way you want to go. You will be on your way to making big paydays every month if you take the appropriate action.
You will need to give consideration to the amount of money that you are prepared to invest into your passive income model. It is possible to do some of them for free but if you can invest money into your project then things will happen faster for you.
So choose your passive income model wisely and I wish you every success.
This is one of the most popular passive income models because it works really well and has been used for many years. It is fairly low risk and if you do it right you can build a large list and make several thousand dollars per month.
A lot of people are put off from list building and email marketing because they think it is too much work. There is certainly some work involved in the beginning to set everything up but this can be outsourced.
There are several advantages to building a list and participating in email marketing:
• It’s fun and exciting to watch your list and income grow
• You will be building a valuable asset
• List building and email marketing are not difficult
• You can make money on demand
• You have an immediate traffic source
• Live the Internet dream
Let’s take a look at all of these benefits. The first is that it is fun and exciting. This is very true. Once you get going with list building you will get a real buzz every time a new subscriber is added. The size of your list defines the potential that you have to make money. Doing something that is fun and exciting will keep you motivated.
There are many other passive income models out there that do not involve capturing email addresses for list building. These models rely on driving traffic to CPA offers or something similar and there is no asset building taking place.
If your CPA marketing business stops then the money stops. If you have a good list of subscribers then you can stop working on your email marketing for a while and the money can still be coming in. The larger your list the more valuable it will be.
There is nothing difficult about email marketing. Sure there are some things that you need to avoid but if you take a common sense approach then it will all be straight forward for you. You do not need any technical skills to set up your sales funnel or set up your autoresponder. You can get started with email marketing very quickly.
Making money on demand is a very good reason to get involved with email marketing. You need to take care of your email subscribers and provide quality emails to build trust. You can make related offers to your list and there will be a percentage of them that will make a purchase and generate revenue for you. You can do this at any time.
Traffic generation is one of the biggest problems that Internet Marketer’s face. When you have a reasonably sized list then you have an immediate traffic source. You can send out an email with a link to your website or offer and watch the traffic flow.
Many people get involved in online marketing because they want to live the Internet dream. This means that they will have financial freedom and time freedom. Once you have everything set up then this is certainly achievable with email marketing.
Main reason to choose Email Marketing
Low risk and easy – you can get started in email marketing for a very low cost. You will need a domain name and web hosting and an autoresponder service but everything else you can do for free
Biggest Drawback with Email Marketing
It takes time – this is not an instant passive income model. List building takes time and if you want to develop a large list (which you should) then you will need to be patient and consistent.
This is another great passive income model that has a ton of potential. It does require more work than some of the other models but the rewards can certainly be worth it. The hardest thing about product creation is coming up with the ideas for new products. This isn’t difficult though as there are lots of websites that you can visit to see what is in demand.
You need to choose a good niche for product creation where money is being spent. If you are an expert or have a passion for one of these niches then all the better. Some examples of niches where money is being spent regularly are:
- Health and Fitness
- Make Money Online
- Dating and Relationships
- Self Help
If you are an expert in another niche then you need to assess whether there is a big enough market to sell your products. If you do a Google search and see a lot of ads on the right hand side for your niche then you are on to a winner. If not then it is best to go where the money is.
You do not have to be an expert in a niche to make good money from product creation. Plenty of people have proved this in the past. What you need to do is address a problem that a lot of people are having in the niche. An example of this is “traffic generation” in the make money online niche.
Once you have chosen your niche you can find forums where people will ask specific questions. Look out for the same question being repeated over and over again and not being satisfactorily answered. This is a good opportunity for you to create a product which solves the problem.
You can create a digital product to solve the problem. This can be a document in PDF format or a series of videos. Videos have a higher perceived value than PDF’s so you can charge more for your product.
There are a number of ways that you can sell your product once you have created it. If you have chosen the make money online niche then you can use the Warrior Forum and create a “Warrior Special Offer (WSO)”. Alternatively you can list your product on JVZoo, Warrior Plus or Clickbank. Why not create a WSO first and then list on another website?
The big advantage of launching an offer on a niche forum is that the traffic is already there. The second advantage is that you will get reviews from purchasers which you can use as testimonials.
If you are going to create your products yourself then you will need some tools. A word processor like Microsoft Word or the free Open Office Writer is essential. Both of these programs can be used to create final documents in PDF format.
If you are going to create videos then you need to consider if you will be appearing in them, whether you will use slides and narrate or whether there will be “over the shoulder” training. You will need a good screen capture program such as Camtasia or Cam Studio. A good video camera and microphone are also a good idea.
You can always outsource the creation of some or all of your products. There are some good ghostwriters out there that will create what you need. As for videos then it is recommended that you create your own.
After you have created your product you will need to create a website or a WSO and drive traffic to it. Having affiliates promote your product for you in return for a commission is a good idea.
Main Reason for Choosing Product Creation
You can generate good income quickly – once your product is ready you can list it on a forum marketplace and make some really good money fast. After this you can list it on a marketplace site such as Clickbank for future sales.
Biggest Drawback with Product Creation
It can be a lot of work – no one ever said that product creation was easy. But it can be very rewarding. If you are going to do everything yourself then it will take time to create your first product. This will get easier the more products that you create.
Publish eBooks on Amazon Kindle
Here is a really good passive income model that earns some people thousands per month. You write eBooks that are of interest to people and then you publish them on the Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) system. Again it is about providing solutions to problems that people have in specific niches.
The really big earners on Kindle do so with fiction eBooks. If you have the creativity to write fiction then you should go ahead and do this but the market is a lot more competitive than nonfiction.
If you are just starting out with Kindle books then we recommend that you go for a nonfiction eBook in a popular niche. You can still make a ton of sales every month as people are always looking for answers and new approaches. The most popular niches on Amazon Kindle are:
- Health and Fitness (particularly Weight Loss)
- Business and Marketing
- Self Help
- Cooking and Recipes
There are examples of authors in the nonfiction genre earning 5 figures a month. They do not normally just have one book on Kindle but several. This is not as difficult as it sounds. Consider the Cooking and Recipes niche. There is almost an unlimited amount of recipe books that you could create.
To write a Kindle eBook it is always best to create an outline first. Your outline will contain your chapters and the sections within those chapters. From this outline you can start writing any chapter that you want. When your eBook is complete you can edit it for flow etc. If you need further information to complete a chapter then use search engines online.
Making a start on your Kindle eBook and following through with consistent writing are the hardest thing. You may have a full time job at the moment so make a commitment to finish one or two chapters each evening. Break from writing every hour and reward yourself with a cup of coffee or whatever you want when you finish each chapter. If you can write full time then set a goal to have your eBook finished in a couple of days.
Every eBook listed on Kindle has a professional looking ecover associated with it. The better looking your ecover the more appealing your eBook will be to potential buyers. If you have no graphic design skills or are short on time then there are some good ecover designers on fiverr.com.
Check out their customer reviews and the samples that they provide. Don’t just go for the cheapest option – take your time and find a good designer. Your ecover is very important and you don’t want to rush this. Be sure to add the book title and the author name to the ecover. If you can’t find what you want on fiverr then go to upwork.com or a forum like the Warrior Forum to find someone good.
With your eBook written and your ecover created it is time to publish. Kindle is a great opportunity for self publishing. Amazon gets tons of traffic to its Kindle pages and you can instantly publish. No negotiating with publishing houses or being rejected by them.
Create a free Amazon KDP account and provide all of the details that they require. This will include tax information. Once your account is established go to “Bookshelf” where you can self publish your eBook.
You need to research some good keywords for your eBook. To rank your eBook higher in Amazon search keywords and your book description will be considered. Follow the instructions to publish and then set your price. Be sure that your price means that you will receive 70% commissions from Amazon.
After publishing your eBook on Kindle let the world know about it. Your family and friends, social media followers and so on. You should be prepared to invest some money in marketing so that you can get good reviews and make more sales.
Main Reason for Choosing Kindle Publishing
Easy and low risk – you can write your eBooks yourself and it will not cost you anything. There is no charge for self publishing on Kindle. You could outsource the writing of your eBook if you prefer this. You can publish an unlimited number of eBooks and the potential is huge.
Biggest Drawback with Amazon Kindle
You need to make sales to get more sales – you will need to do some serious marketing to get your new eBook noticed. This will either take time or money (or both). It is not just a matter of publishing and they will come (unless you have been successful with other Kindle eBooks and people know who you are and like your books).
Create an Authority Blog
Did you know that there are people earning fantastic full time incomes simply through running a blog? Well there are and there is no reason why you cannot do this as well. It will take you a bit of time to establish your blog and build your audience but once you do this there are so many opportunities to make money!
Choosing the right niche is essential with successful blogging. If you choose a niche that is not very popular or doesn’t have a number of opportunities for monetization then you will be unlikely to succeed.
Think about the popular niches that you could get excited to blog about. Making money is always popular and so is health and fitness. Yes they are competitive niches but you don’t have to rank number one in Google for “make money online” to get the traffic that you need.
Having said that, SEO must be part of your blogging strategy. You need to conduct in depth keyword research about your niche to find those long tail keywords (keyword terms with three or more words) that have good search volume and low SEO competition.
Once you have found these keywords you can write blog posts around them so that you have a good chance of ranking in the search engines. For some long tail keywords it is possible to rank on the first page of Google without any external backlinks. This traffic is very targeted and completely free so make sure that you put the SEO effort in.
Your aim with your blog must be to provide high quality posts that add value. Your readers will really appreciate this and will share your posts on social media getting you more exposure. You need to create a blog posting plan which contains the titles of the posts that you will publish and when.
If you are not a good writer, don’t have the time or just hate doing it then get a good professional writer on board to do this for you. Yes it will cost you money but you will not have to agonize over writing.
There are several ways that you can monetize your blog. You can use ads from Google under their Adsense program and make money every time an ad is clicked. There are also native ads which work in a similar way.
You can sell your own products or services through your blog and also sell other people’s products for an affiliate commission. An audience that likes you and trusts you will be receptive to any products that you recommend on your blog.
There is also the opportunity to sell advertising space on your blog. Other marketers are always on the lookout for high traffic blogs in the same niche. Offer a guest posting service as well where other marketers can have a post published with a link back to their website for a fee.
Setting up your blog is really easy. All you need is a domain name, web hosting and the free WordPress blogging platform. You can install WordPress automatically on your domain using install software that your web host will provide.
Main Reason for Choosing Blogging
Easy to start and monetize – anybody can start a blog and turn it into a traffic powerhouse. You do not need any technical skills to install WordPress and post regular content to it. A high traffic blog offers many ways to make a considerable income every month.
Biggest Drawback with Blogging
Time and effort – blogging to make passive income is not a quick solution. It can take quite some time to get the traffic that you need to make really good money. If you are going to do everything yourself then you will have to be prepared to write a number of high quality posts every month to keep your audience happy.
Selling Physical Products through Fulfillment By Amazon (FBA)
This is a really great passive income model and success marketers are making hundreds of thousands per month and more from this. The concept is a simple one – you find out which products are selling well on Amazon and then source your own to grab a slice of the sales.
To be honest there are a lot of factors that you need to consider when choosing a product to sell on Amazon. You will probably be sourcing the product from China or somewhere else in the world so you need to take into account the weight of the product for the shipping costs.
It is not advisable to sell electronics. These items have a habit of becoming damaged when they are being shipped and the last thing you want is for customers to pay for goods that don’t work. It is always best to keep it simple.
Go through the popular categories on Amazon and note the ones that are selling well. There is a plug in for Google Chrome that will show you the Amazon “Best Seller Rank” and this is helpful for your product research. You can buy premium software that will help you to find product opportunities as well.
With Amazon FBA you will need to ship products to the Amazon warehouse with your branding on them. Amazon will charge you to fulfill the customer orders that you receive. They will handle customer service issues on your behalf.
Amazon is the world’s largest marketplace and you can sell your products in America, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and elsewhere. It is a massive opportunity to make great passive income.
You will need to be in control of everything from sourcing the product to shipping and monitoring inventory levels. Having your product “sold out” may sound exciting but it is frustrating for the customers who want to make a purchase.
You will need to write a compelling product page for your products. If you are concerned about this then you can outsource the task to a good copywriter. You will also need good keywords in your title and description so that your listing will appear in Amazon searches.
Amazon FBA is an exciting business to be involved in and it has a lot of potential. There are a number of things that you must learn before you get started to minimize your chances of failure. You will need to invest in your first batch of product to test the market.
Main Reason to Choose Amazon FBA
The money making potential is unlimited – Amazon is the world’s biggest market place and millions of people like it and trust it. If they like your product offering then they will buy it. You can rinse and repeat and have several products listed.
Biggest Drawback with Amazon FBA
You will need to make an investment in the business – unless you produce the products that you want to sell yourself then you will need to pay the supplier for a test market quantity of say 500 units. This can run into thousands if the product is expensive to buy.
